The management committee of the Whitsunday Neighbourhood Centre proudly presented Volunteer Shirley Wyatt with a plaque to commemorate 20 years dedicated service. Shirley has volunteered in most of the roles at one time or other over her 20 years of service including shop assistant, committee member, Vice President and most recently Emergency Relief Officer. Congratulations Shirley!!
OVER $600 dollars was raised for the Daniel Morcombe Foundation Inc last Friday. Schools and businesses across the Whitsundays dressed, decorated offices or ate food the colour red to raise funds to protect children and teach them how to be safe. Ray White Whitsunday, Community Solution, Scallywags Child Care and Coles Cannonvale coordinated by Whitsunday Neighbourhood Centre took part in the fundraising hosting a sausage sizzle at the Whitsunday Shopping Centre.
“People were very generous in donating and we got spread the child safety message which coincided with Children’s week” said community development officer Tamara Noble.
“I was not surprised at the number of businesses that came on board, as it is a responsibility of all locals to keep our children safe”. Ms Noble said
Schools participated by encouraging students to wear red for a gold coin donation.
